Last evening, the village of Kirby Overblow, nestled in the heart of North Yorkshire, became the setting for an extraordinary event that has made the station's admin proud. Harrogate Community Radio, in its continuous effort to connect, entertain, and inspire, took part in a one-of-a-kind fundraiser hosted within the historic walls of All Saints Church. This was no ordinary event; it was a journey towards a cutting-edge use of analogue equipment: valves & reel-to-reel tape. And, HD sound using 48Kh masters where possible!

The Heart of the Evening

At the heart of this memorable night was a sound system like no other, engineered by a local electronics genius, Mike Merwick, whose passion for music and mastery of sound created an auditory experience that was nothing short of magical. This unique setup allowed attendees to experience a select playlist of Jazz, Pop, and Classical in its purest form, with the warmth of vinyl and the authenticity of Reel to Reel tapes enriching the church’s already enchanting atmosphere.

A Community Comes Together

The event saw a wonderful turnout, with people of all ages coming together to support the fundraiser. The blend of classic tunes and the mesmerising quality of the sound system transported everyone to a different era, proving once again that music is a timeless bridge between souls.

Allan Smyth, one of Harrogate Community Radio's dedicated admins, represented the station, helping ensure the evening ran smoothly and that the music perfectly encapsulated the spirit of community and shared joy. Allan's efforts and the vibrant energy he brought to the evening were pivotal in making the event a resounding success.

Success Beyond Music

The fundraiser was not just a triumph of music and engineering; it was a testament to the power of community. It showcased how when a community comes together, it can create something truly special. The funds raised, split with the All Saints Church, during the event will go a long way in supporting the station's mission to provide diverse, engaging, and empowering content to its listeners.

A Thank You Note

We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who made this event possible – from the brilliant mind behind the sound system, Mike Merwick, to the enthusiastic attendees and our own Allan Smyth for his impeccable representation of Harrogate Community Radio. Your support and passion are what fuel our journey. Here are some of the images taken on the evening…

As we look ahead, we are inspired to continue exploring unique ways to engage with and contribute to our community. We hope to see you at our future events, sharing in the magic that is created when we come together as one.
