Framework is devoted to field recording and its use in composition. It emerged at a time when a new global community of sound artists was forming – artists drawn to found sound, environmental audio and the textures of everyday life. Connected by the internet rather than geography, this community needed a place to meet, exchange and listen. Framework became that place.
The programme acts as both platform and gathering point. It presents the diverse sound environments of our world and the equally diverse works created from them. It treats field recording not as a fixed genre, but as an open instrument – shaped by whoever holds a microphone and an idea. The works define the practice, not the other way round.
