Downtime Expected – We Are Upgrading The Experience

Written by on January 9, 2022

I have some mixed news to tell you; we are upgrading the server for a better listening experience, but there will be a bit of downtime in the interim. It will be worth this short hiccup in the short term and you will have a better listening experience moving forward.

The HCR App for iOS and Android have both updated fine – they are broadcasting the new server. This website that you are on now, the HCR website, is also broadcasting the new, most relevant server. Good to go on that front.

  • But, we are waiting on Alexa to catch up.
  • We are waiting on and a few other systems to update which will bring SONOS in to line.
  • We are waiting on Ruark to catch up too.

This should take a few days, as of writing this post on a Sunday. Please keep your eyes peeled on our socials (@HarrogateRadio on T / Fb / I) to find the latest news on developments.

Why did we changed the server? Well the old version of the software that ran on it had stopped being supported and it just got a bit too buggy. There was a bit too much downtime on the old server; shows were missing and ended up not being broadcast.

Our hosts put their hearts in to their shows, to not be able to broadcast their show, keeping our end of the bargain, was mortifying.

We have upgraded the server to a professional model and it is love at first sight for me and the tech working behind it. It has the familiarity of the old server but none of the bugs. I am smitten.

The outcome is we can be surer that things will just work. We are looking at better fidelity audio and less downtime.
