Just a quick note; we have received an email from OFCOM saying that SSDAB is going to be made available to Harrogate & Wetherby area. It has been in the pipeline since the days of Stray FM and CMA have really been fighting in the corner of true community radio in ensuring there is a rollout across the country.

Well, what is SSDAB? It is an abbreviation of Small Scale DAB. It means Harrogate Community Radio could be on a more traditional broadcasting platform, DAB.

OFCOM, the communications regulator, stopped issuing Community FM Broadcast licenses when they started issuing SSDAB – years ago. We have been looking for ways to get HCR into as many homes as possible. This means we need to make traditional broadcasting an option. On traditional receivers.

As mentioned, FM is now no longer allowed for community stations like ourselves. It is SSDAB or sticking to Internet Only.

We hope to work with other stations in the area on this – Tempo FM in Wetherby have told us that they are not pursuing SSDAB. We had a series of emails… ooooh, March time? …. we spoke about the tech and what is expected. But, they said they were not applying for it. They even had Bill Best from the CMA up from Sheffield to look at their set-up – so, it is just us and possibly Your Harrogate.

… you never know…
